This wasn't even fair how good this was. Not only was the service fantastic, but the food was even better. Between my wife's taco plate, my rib and brisket dinner and my daughter's cheeseburger, every single bite was awesome. Oh, and the appetizers, we had the candied pig and the smoked-fried wings with their choice of sauces. Unbelievable!! This was my family's first time at Bad brads barbecue. However, it will not be our last! If you have the opportunity, get there and get some food. You'll thank me for it.

I've between here a number of times. Honestly, last night's visit was the first in quite some time (despite living just up the street). While very good, I generally do find the food a bit rich. Also, we travel down south often, so it is unfair to compare the bar b que. HOWEVER, last night's visit I tried something new. The fried chicken and waffles appetizer was absolutely AMAZING! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Read some reviews and thought a good place to go. Whoever owns this place, has a great taste. Restaurant was awesome. Staff was great. You could feel that the employees really enjoyed being there. That tells me management knows what they are doing. You can tell a lot of thought went into this establishment. The sliced brisket was prefect. Also the turkey. Loved the sweet sauce. My sides were Mac and cheese and sweet potato mash. Didn't really care for Mac and cheese but loved the other side. It was a little pricey but understandable with how the restaurant was. I don't live around there but would stop by if going by. Keep up the good job!

Color me disappointed. That's a color, right? Recently, Bad Brad's has scrapped their lunch menu and also raised the prices of most of their items by one or, in many cases, two dollars. Why'd they take the Nate Dogg sandwich off the menu, too? That thing was stupid good. They still have the best BBQ in the area (not many options though, to be honest), but they'll be seeing a lot less business from me now. Bummer for them, and for me. Oh well. EDIT: Alright, full-on disregard. Apparently there is still a lunch menu, and the Nate Dogg is still around (thank God). Disregard. Still, putting rating just at a 4 due to price increases.

Second time here, was seated and waited 16 minutes , no one ever came to take our order, walked out.

  • Erin J.

they've raised their prices to the point where it's just not worth it to eat there. I don't think they cook anything onsite anymore, it's made elsewhere and reheated.

Good bbq worth a stop . Came for lunch and got quick service . I live in Texas for months a year and I like bbq . This is pretty close .

Went there once and everything was great as far as food but beer prices sky high- 9.00 for a 16 oz domestic draft? That's why I haven't been back. So sad.

Great BBQ, awesome beer choices, wonderful interior design/atmosphere, and reasonably priced. I have also never had any service issues. I would recommend Bad Brads to anyone looking for a quality meal and from a local, non-mega-chain restaurant.

Since they don't take reservations or do call ahead seating you have to make sure you go at the right time as this place is fairly tiny. I love that they have all the different sauces on the table for you to try and put on as much or as little as you want. Not a great place for toddlers that need a booster seat or high chair as they offer seats that clip onto the end of the table. Makes me a little nervous with my son. The service, food and drinks at this particular location have always been great for us.

I've been here a couple of times and think the food is half way decent. The staff and/or the lack of staff is a problem. The service is not good and I always have to wait for very long time.

I've read the reviews, and I finally tried Bad Brads. On a recent Sunday afternoon, I went with family to celebrate the occasion of an adult birthday. I was told that back when the Seabees were stationed at Selfridge, they would often show up here for meals. We ordered a BBQ Nachos appetizer and it was large enough to make a meal out of it for one or two people. I don't usually pay close attention to what everyone orders at my table, so suffice it to say that all I heard at the end of our meal was how good everything was. I ordered a Fun Guy burger and it was fantastic! Besides the burger, it was loaded with sauteed mushrooms (Fun Guy = fungi) and onions, and cheese and sauce, the combination was amazing. It came with BBQ potato chips, which went along nicely with the burger. An Arnold Palmer was used for a belly-washer. With all the hype I have heard, I expected this location to be huge! It wasn't, but the layout was nice. Recycled barn wood is used throughout, and whoever put the building together did a great job. From the time you walk up to the door and up to when you are seated, generous amounts of wood are used to delight the eye. Outdoor seating is available, as well. While I would often request outdoor seating, it was pretty warm out and my dining party had already selected an indoor table for the birthday boy. Service: Great service was provided. I didn't catch our server's name, but she was excellent! As plates became empty, they disappeared before the next ones arrived. Drinks were refilled without asking and all in all (besides our server), the wait staff did a wonderful job keeping everything moving. And lastly, a big thank you to the cooks in the kitchen. They obviously know the menu and did a fantastic job with the timing, quality and quantity of the food. My dining party took home ample left-overs (I myself took home a sore belly from eating so much!). Great job, Bad Brads - I'll be back!

My meal is always good here. I had the smoked turkey and the smoked sausage today. Both were excellent. The staff is always friendly. The atmosphere is great. My only gripe is the $2 up charge for brisket on the meat platters now.

I had heard good things about this place, so when I was in the area with some friends we decided to get a carry out order. The venue is pretty cool with old tractor seats as barstools and a really nice patio with a fireplace. We didn't call ahead, so I was relieved to see that it wasn't crazy busy. I expected the wait for carryout to be about 20 minutes, but they had everything out to us in about 10. We ordered a dark meat half chicken, chopped brisket, pulled pork, and smoked turkey. That came with 2 sides, and we decided to get 3 more to round it out. They have a ton to choose from and we got the cornbread, mac n cheese, pit beans, collard greens, and chili cheese grits. All of the meat was tender and packed with flavor. The sides were really good! The mac n cheese was broiled on top and gooey inside, the cornbread had peppers in it was was buttery and moist, the pit beans had great flavor, the collard green were perfectly cooked and had a great taste, and the chili cheese grits were good, but all I could taste was the the chili. Overall I really like everything we tried, but I thought the portions could have been a bit bigger for the price. Maybe it's a takeout vs sit in kind of thing, but I felt that the sides in particular were pretty small.

Hands down the very best BBQ on the east side! Bad Brads is one of the best things to happen to New Baltimore. Once you've tried Bad Brads you'll never look at BBQ food the same again. Their BBQ Nachos are listed as an appetizer on their menu, but they're a meal on their own! Most New Baltimorons will tell you this is their favorite dish. Also must-tries include: Cornbread, BBQ Baked Beans, and BBQ Chowder. I haven't met a person yet who doesn't like Bad Brads. This restaurant opened in a building that countless businesses had failed in before them and it's so nice to see a local business totally take off! Do yourself a favor and give Bad Brads a try if you haven't already. I'd put money on it that you will not be disappointed!

This place has pretty much gone down hill over the years. The prices have raised but the quality of the food has gone down hill. My boyfriend and I split the pig candy as an appetizer since who doesn't love bacon?! The bacon is topped with sugar and spices. It's served cold and that was a turn off for me. When you bite into the bacon you get a cold burst of grease in your mouth and that was an even bigger turn off for me. I had the street tacos. Pretty awesome. Tons of flavor and veggies. It's pretty much a crispy corn tortilla inside of another crispy corn tortilla with your choice of meat (pulled chicken, brisket and pulled pork) and cheese and veggies. The spicy sour cream had a nice kick compared to other times. The meals just didn't seem as fresh and when they first opened this location. They don't make any items in house and you can definitely tell everything is reheated all the time. 321 sauce is still the way to go. Another thing I have noticed is they are pretty much always hiring. There is constantly at least one sign outside telling everyone they are hiring for cooks, waitstaff or dishwashers. That tells me that something isn't right with the restaurant and there is reasons why people don't stay working there.

Great barbecue, delicious sauce selection. Prompt, friendly and efficient service. Only drawback- very very very LOUD.

Bad Brad's has some of the best BBQ food around, hands down!! The appetizers here are great. I had their Downtown BBQ Cheese Fries, WHHHAT!!! Fantastic! Their BBQ Chowder is like a sin in a bowl!! A creamy potato chowder with some cheese, and then they take BBQ brisket and put it inside of it! The sauces which they have are all homemade. The 321 sauce is my favorite! I put it on everything. I wish I could buy their sauces and take them home. I have had the BBQ burger and the Black and Bleu Burger, both of them were great, but I warn you to eat them with a fork. They are far too big and messy to try to conquer with your hands, unless you have a personal assistant next to you just holding out paper towel for you to use. I have to be honest that I don't think I have ever tried their desserts. I have always been too full to try to have a dessert after eating such good BBQ. Oh and by the way, the building is really cool and in the summer they have an outdoor patio with a Koi pond that they open up.

We've been coming here since it opened. Some things have changed, some have stayed the same, some have evolved. What has been consistent? Remarkably great service, and delicious food. This evening, we chose the two meat platter with pulled pork and sliced brisket. Triple YUM! We were served by the beautiful, always smiling, Kalicia. She's the sweetest bartender we've ever had here. Her drinks are consistently poured, and she handles the ongoing multitasking quite smoothly. The restaurant is always clean, even with the high volume of business they do. It's obvious they have high standards here. Clearly the manager, Sara, keeps everything running smoothly. I highly recommend Bad Brad's for your next dining out experience.

I've eaten here many times and over the years the quality has gone down the drain. The food keeps getting greasier and quality is so inconsistent we stopped going. It's the best bbq joint in the area but that's not saying much. If your really craving it, go for it, but don't expect much. Their prices are on the steep side for bbq as well, they gouge you if you want to upgrade your side, which you should because their fresh potato chips are horrible

Menu is great. So many interesting and yummy sounding options. It takes a while to make up your mind. My last visit here I tried the chicken and waffles. The plating looked great, tasted good, and very interesting! Tried other dishes of those who were with me also. The food was all delicious. Only downfall, and this is a big one for me... Is speed of service. Each time I've been here we've had to wait quite a while for our food, for the waitress to come back, and for the bill without any explanation or apologies. Waitstaff could be more personable and friendly too... I'd suggest that management/the owner work on this, as other friends have also noticed this issue. Five star food and atmosphere, but 3 star overall because of this. Otherwise, atmosphere is great and the decor is so unique and fun. The outside patio enjoyable also. Also, like another reviewer said, they do not take reservations. So if you have a big group someone should get there early.

Best burger of my life! And I'm a burger snob! My husband and I went in with our two minions (2 and 9 months) about an hour before they closed. The waitress took our order quickly and the food was out even faster. I ordered a burger medium well and it was still tender and NOT at all dry! My husband ordered his medium and after his first bite said "Oh my god" We ordered the kids a grilled chese which was huge and they devoured together. Overall, everything was great! We will be back again!

The BBQ Nachos are to die for! It's a fantastic BBQ place I can highly recommend. Prices are decent, not cheap. But worth the meal you get.

The quintessential BBQ joint in the Detroit area is Slows, and there have been a ton of new shops that have opened up in and around the city to capitalize on the BBQ craze. Bad Brads is thankfully not a knock off, but rather a genuinely great place to get quality BBQ. This location is significantly smaller than the one in Shelby, but the menu is mostly the same; save for this location NOT serving pizza. It can get crowded during dinner rush, especially on the weekends, but we've never had to wait more than 30 minutes, which is average for the area. Despite its size, the dining floor doesn't seem too cramped and everything is clean. I usually pass up sandwiches at BBQ joints as for me, it's all about the meats. The brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, smoked turkey and fried chicken are all very good. Each meal I've had here has been tender and juicy, and never dry or overdone. The sauces are all good as well. The sides are also glorious and my favorites are the mac and cheese and the BBQ chowder, but you can't go wrong with the sweet potato mash and corn bread either. The beer menu at this location rotates quite a bit, just like the other location, and most beers will pair well with anything on the menu. I'd like to see a few more local offerings, but having 5-6 craft selections of any kind is awesome. The service has always been good, and while the kitchen claims to make everything from scratch (a claim that I cannot refute), food comes out rather quick, so they can give you a great "homemade" meal, but get you turned around quick too. My only complaints are the same that I have with the Shelby location and that's the drink menu is awkward (the paper is attached to heavy wood, bound by metal rings) and the drinks are served in mason jars. Otherwise, this is a fantastic BBQ joint. Both sit down locations are consistently good, and I've never been given a reason to not want to come here.

This place is AMAZING!!!! There are no other ways of describing it. The ribs delicious! The brisket....tender! This joint is a gem, worth the drive if you don't live near! I had ribs, Mac and cheese, & sweet potato mash. I choose the garnish of 321 sauce, which was perfect for my palette. I cannot express enough how much I love this place and will be coming back! And don't skimp out on the appetizers, try the pig candy and smoke fried wings! *kisses fingers* I could go on all day about this place....go try it now!

They have gotten much better recently. I gave them another try and was surprised at the difference. I am now a fan of their bbq, although the sauces still need to be redone. They are a little pricy for the amount of food you get, but I have enjoyed all of the smoked meats and the fish and chips.

My family loves it, good ribs, although I was they had baby backs, the nachos are awesome, and my favorite is the pork sausage, homemade chips also, and always great service!!

I can't say enough about this place! It's dry, sauces suck. Service is so-so. I was very disappointed. We took the left overs for our dogs. Honestly can say they wouldn't eat it. Was livid after all the hype, we were looking for a good BBQ place. One star for an appropriate name. It's bad alright!

I am not into the giant plates of barbecued meat but I love all of the sides you get with barbecue. I just tried this place and I love it and cannot wait to go back and try other things. I got the pick 3 sides with beans, corn break and tortilla soup. Everyone claims to have great corn bread and then I'm sad because it's horrible. Their cornbread is amazing, some of the best I have ever had. The beans were yummy, smokey, sweet and spicy. The tortilla soup is tomato based which I love because usually they are cream based and I can't eat dairy. It was so good! My mom got the street tacos and I was shocked how great they were. She was kind enough to give me the leftovers for lunch today, still good! I will be back for sure.

I had the classic barbecue pulled pork sandwich for lunch. It was very good! The presentation of the food and drinks is great. The side of fresh vegetables and french fries that I had, had an amazing taste. And the chips on the side made a perfect snack to take home. Every time I go there they continue to give me the great tasting food that I love. All of the items on the menu sound great! I definitely recommend going here!!!

Flavors are awesome, but execution wasn't great. Meats were tougher and had way more salt than at the Shelby location. The sides are amazing. This chain has some definite winners! Atmosphere was nice, Service was OK. If you're looking for your first Bad Brad's experience, I suggest the Shelby location. Also, when we went, the restaurant was too hot to be comfortable. Gotta turn up that AC!

Awesome place! People may hate for what I am about to say but I've only ever ate 2 things from here and boy are they delicious! Bad Brad's Burger Toasted bun, Beef brisket, medium rare beef patty and cheddar cheese!(i get the cole slaw on the side) the bbq ranch nachos! Seriously who came up with that idea?

Ok, so I'm giving this review two stars, only because I have only been there once and did not have a good experience. My girlfriend and myself absolutely love good BBQ, who doesn't right? Well we live less than a mile from bad brads and decided, let's go and get some BBQ, after all most of the time we drive past they are packed, so it must be good right? Not for us! I had ordered the pulled pork and I think she ordered the beef brisket. Well my pork was mostly fatty. I did not enjoy it. To be honest, I could barely eat it. My fries were salted to all hell and to be quite honest, our server kind of sucked. It was a hassle to get a refill on my soda and they weren't even busy at the time. I don't really remember why my girlfriend did not enjoy her beef brisket, but I do know that her fries were also salted to all hell. So we decided to just continue to drive on by the next time we go for BBQ. It's a shame because they are so close. We might give it one more go sometime in the future.

Delicious food with great service!!! If you like BBQ you will enjoy it! Great atmosphere and environment but slightly on the dated side....they need to invest in air conditioning for the hot summer days! But their food makes up for it!!

I moved to New Baltimore back in August. I was still waiting on the delivery of all my things so obviously I had to eat out a lot. Really didn't have any BBQ places back home in New England so the concept was pretty new to me. Swung into Bad Brad's and instantly became a fan. Tall local brews in Mason Jars, and you can't beat the food either! Usually I do a two meat platter of chopped brisket, pulled pork, along with collard greens and chili cheese grits. The service is too notch as well!I make it there about 2 times a month. They also offer a 20% military discount which I am extremely grateful of. Thank you for the great food, beer, service and discount. I will be a regular visitor as long as I live here.

I don't typically write reviews but this place is really unique and the food was absolutely outstanding. The service was excellent and that really capped off a great experience. I really appreciate food that takes time to prepare. In most places you eat out you get the sense that they quickly heat your food and throw it on a plate, you eat and leave. You can really get a feel for the time it takes to prepare the food at Brads and that adds to the overall taste and feel. Good job guys Jake Brown

Consistently delicious. Haven't found anything bad on the whole menu. The wait staff is prompt, courteous, and friendly. Use to frequent Slows, I always choose Bad Brads now.

Bad Brad's is a good, not great, BBQ restaurant. As of 2014, it's probably the best restaurant in New Baltimore, which isn't saying much. They are a big fish in a small pond. If you seek better BBQ, the choices in the Metro Detroit area are abundant but you will have to drive to get it. BB's is starting to open up multiple locations in Macomb County and it seems they are focusing their attention on the new locations and letting this one flounder. Cooks and waitress WANTED signs are frequently posted out front. My pet peeve with Bad Brad's the inconsistency of the product, some days the pork and brisket are screaming good, other days dry and lacking flavor. On the worst days, it seems they serve leftovers from the previous day.The macaroni and cheese is overpriced based on the portions served. The sandwiches are all pretty good. They used to serve a great fish sandwich but the quality of that one really dropped. I think the fried chicken and ribs are the best items on the menu. Like all restaurants, you have to cherry pick the menu to sort out the good from the mediocre. Overall, it's definately worth it to give this place a try.

  • Alex W.

Great burger place!! I've tried the Diablo, the tex mex, and countless other things and have never been disappointed. This place has the best hamburgers. At the table there are usually 3-5 sauces to add to your food to enhance their flavor but not over power it.

I love BBQ. Maybe I was just having an off day. Maybe I should have ordered something different. There were lots of yummy-looking choices on the menu. I ordered the Mickey sandwich (Chopped Brisket, Swiss Cheese, Coleslaw, and 21 Mayo on Grilled Rye). I asked them to hold the mayo as I was eager to try the BBQ sauces on our table and didn't think spicy mayo was needed. The waitress said they could hold the mayo, but that's what they use to grill the bread. (Instead of spreading butter on the bread and grilling it, they put on mayo and grill it.) We agreed that they'd use mayo for grilling but not spread more on the sandwich afterward. Anyway, I got this sandwich which just seemed greasy and not all that flavorful even when I added BBQ sauce. So maybe the spicy mayo would have been a better choice. But who wants a mayo sandwich that already has cole slaw on it? Also, I felt like the brisket was extremely fatty. Instead of serving fries with the sandwiches, they serve homemade BBQ chips. I'm not a huge fan of BBQ chips but my husband is and he said they were really good. (Incidentally, his lunch came with some kind of homemade tortilla chip that tasted like cool ranch Doritos but was way fresher and yummier. Wish I had gotten those instead.) I don't know why restaurants don't publish their kids' menus but this one had pretty standard fare - grilled cheese, burger, mac & cheese - plus a couple surprises such as ribs. The homemade french fries that my kids got were AWESOME. Kids meals are about $5 and include fries & a generously sized drink. I tried a few bites of my mom's Eddie sandwich (Warm Shaved Brisket, Swiss Cheese on a French Style Crispy Baguette. Served with Smoked Au Jus & Horseradish Dipping Sauces.) Meh. Again, the meat was fatty and the sandwich seemed greasy. I would go back again because, frankly, Brad just doesn't have much in the way of competition in New Baltimore. But I would avoid the sandwiches. The BBQ tacos and chicken & waffles look intriguing.

It is difficult to review a BBQ place because I feel like all our tastes are different. I'm going to try to do my best with Bad Brad's. They have a variety of sauces. None are too hot, I personally feel like they should make a spicy one for us who prefer some spice with our meat. All of their meat is very smokey tasting. The ribs have more fat on them then I prefer but my husband loves them. The sausage is to die for. The pulled pork pretty good. That extra smoke taste puts them beyond other pull pork offerings. The smoked chicken is always tender and again, smokey. The brisket is good but again, too fatty for my personal taste. They have a large selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads and even tacos. The smoked bacon is divine. They have a good selection of local beers on tap. Lately, they have been lacking in the variety of beers. Lots of pales, IPAs and browns. I'm more of a stout, porter, belgian or red person. The service is good. The food is amazing. The beer selection is good. Trifecta for a restaurant.

Bad Brads is WAY outside my typical dining area, but we were heading out to a party at a friends house and thanks to Yelp found this great place! Definitely some of the better BBQ I've had and to top it off they had great service wrapped in a great little atmosphere package! First of all, definitely try the salsas! Of course, if you know me, you know I'm a total sucker for good salsa (and I'd like to think that makes me a connoisseur). I wasn't necessarily expecting to be impressed at a BBQ joint, but I totally was! Second, definitely get the chopped brisket! I didn't even know what chopped brisket was, but just ask - and then order it! It was truly amazing, all smoky and tender... my goodness! It's also super cute inside, with a unique atmosphere of "reclaimed" materials and artwork on the walls. It's really creative. Plus, I can't deny that I kind of enjoyed drinking from the canning jars... This place is a really good find!

My favorite BBQ joint. Everything I have ordered here has been great. The BBQ nachos, the jimmy sandwich, the chop sandwich, tortilla soup, Mac n cheese, all the meats...this place does it all and does it great. Good atmosphere except these wait girls they have aren't very friendly and could maybe use a smile.

This is some the best BBQ I have had since I left GA. If you love great BBQ and a casual atmosphere you have to try this place. It is the best place to eat in New Baltimore.

When they first open I was there almost ever other week, even had a few guys from work going during lunch break. The ribs were great, one of the better ones in Michigan. Something seems to have changed about three or so months in, ribs started to be more greasy along with other meat on the menu. Maybe they had to change how they cooked them to keep up with demand or changed their meat quality. Great atmosphere and some good local beer. Just haven't had any great food lately from them.

Despite some of the negative reviews, I gave Bad Brad's in NB a chance and I'm glad I did. I met a friend here on a Thursday at 5:30 for dinner. I'd say the restaurant was only 1/3 filled with patrons upon arrival and when we left close to 8pm it was packed FULL. I have no complaints about service: our waitress was friendly and attentive. Now onto the FOOD: My friend isn't a foodie so she didn't comment about her meal therefor I will only be writing about mine. I ordered the 2 meat platter with 2 sides. I got the pork sausage, sliced brisket, sweet potato mash and mac n' cheese. The pork sausage was probably my favorite, it is flavored nicely and has a spicy kick to it. After trying it with all the sauces I found I liked it best with the sweet mustard. The brisket was flavored nicely but maybe a little on the dry side? I'm not as experienced with this style BBQ so I could be wrong on the dryness of the brisket. I still enjoyed it and found it paired nicely with the 321 sauce. As for the sides, I must warn that the sweet potato mash was VERY SWEET. I am not a fan of mixing sweet almost dessert-ish foods with my savory entrees during dinnertime, however it was super yummy and so I just waited till the end of my meal to finish it off. The mac n' cheese was just fine; there was nothing wrong with it but its hard to be impressed by mac n' cheese after eating it at Red Coat Tavern and Union Woodshop. Should be noted I'd eat the mac n' cheese again. My beverage was a craft beer, can't remember what it was called but it was an amber beer. I asked our waitress if I could try a couple beers and she brought them over promptly for me to taste. Hope this is helpful! I can't wait to go back and eat at Bad Brad's again!

Just had some take out from here and I was pleasantly surprised. I purchased a Pick 2 lunch special, got the Jimmy and a large side of Mac n' cheese which only cost $10 which is a great deal. The sandwich looked small at first but ended up being more than enough. The Jimmy comes with pulled chicken, bacon, cheddar and 321 bbq sauce. The chicken was a tad dry for my liking but I've gotten used to that being the standard with all the health codes and hypochondriacs haha. I was only able to get three bites into the mac n' cheese, which was excellent, but I was way too full. Not to mention they also threw in a bag of fresh made potato chips and a few sides of extra sauce at no charge. The service was great, the staff was super helpful and I will will definitely be back. There are a lot of items on the menu that I'm eager to try.

I really do love Bad Brads and I think it is absolutely fantastic that they are successful in New Baltimore. The food is great and tastes really fresh and the prices are fair. The BBQ nachos and street tacos are my favorite.

This was my first time at bad brads. The best potato skins I've ever had. Ribs were good but after a while everything seemed overly sweet. I would give them another shot but not sure what would I expect to be different in main course.for a drink and appetizer this is my new spot but not dinner staff was a bit slow but very nice

I felt prompted to update my post since Bad Brad's has made a few minor changes, all for the better! The outdoor patio is beautiful and adds lots more seating and a second bar. It is now beginning to be too cold to use-but the finished product is wonderful. The Mac n Cheese now has a crispy topping. Not sure what it is, but it is yummy. They offer the nachos-which are one of the best things on the menu, and one of the best things I have ever had from any restaurant, anywhere-in a smaller portion. This is a good thing because their former size was too much food. Love the Campfire nachos and the BBQ Chicken. Choosing between the two is like choosing your favorite child. One reviewer commented on the greasy-ness of the chips. I have eaten here at least a dozen times and the chips are sometimes greasy. They are made fresh, so I assume sometimes quality can vary. If you alert the staff I am sure they would do their best to make them non-greasy. The sausage. They now make and smoke their own sausage. It is some of the most delicious sausage I have ever tasted. Unique, not too spicy but so much flavor. Love, Love LOVE the sausage. I have ventured into the menu beyond my standard 3 meat platter. I have enjoyed the Make-Your-Own Tacos. Love the salsas and guacamole. The Johnny Diablo is an awesome grilled burrito concoction. My husband loves the Chop and the Hammer. The Potato Skins are nothing to toy with. Seriously, come hungry if you order those things. Great service as always, owners and managers are very attentive and on-the-ball. These people run a great restaurant and are looking to open one in Shelby Township soon!

I love the food at Slow's but I don't love the drive or the wait. Enter Bad Brad's. I was very anxious to try it and see if I had found something comparable that was much more convenient or if I'd need to keep looking. I usually order the same thing when I get BBQ - brisket or pulled pork with cornbread and mac & cheese. 1) This time I ordered the brisket. Fantastic. Juicy, flavorful, smoked just right. Advantage: push 2) Mac & Cheese. Good, all the components seemed to be there. Creamy and cheesy, but to me it just lacked "something". Honestly I'm not even sure what that "something" was. I think I was looking for a bite to it, this was just a bit more bland. Advantage: Slow's 3) Cornbread. AWESOME. I mean really blows Slow's (which is usually too dry) away. 4) Sauces. Again, I think Slows does them just a bit better. Overall, a good, closer alternative.

What a fantastic establishment. The decor is very well thought out and fits the menu quite well, the food well like others have said its some of the best BBQ out there hands down. The only thing I'd change is make the sauces a bit thicker but the flavor is perfect. Also try the Cornbread, with diced jalapeños its a match made in heaven. The BBQ nachos also make a great appetizer.

I tend to fall into ruts when it comes to eating out, always ordering the same couple of "Old Safety" dishes. So I take as a real testament to Bad Brad's that every time I visit I go out of my way to get something I haven't tried before. I'm constantly stepping out of my safe zone to try new things here and I've never been let down. I spent January and February living in Nashville and traveling to Memphis and couldn't wait to get back to Detroit so I could eat at Brad's. My apologies to The South but "Y'all ain't got nuthin" on Bad Brad's.

I cannot understand all of the positive reviews for this place. There is a lack of decent restaurants in the area, so maybe in comparison Bad Brads looks ok. We tried this place a few months ago. Based on the super long wait times for a table, we expected really good food. We were disappointed. The atmosphere was ok but the service felt rushed. Between the two of us, we ordered both types of brisket, the pulled pork, and the smoked sausage. We thought the chopped brisket and the sausage were good. The others were over seasoned. Way too salty. For sides we had a side salad (standard, just ok), baked beans (disgustingly sweet), sweet potatoes which tasted more like sweet potato pie, and chili -which we were up charged for - that tasted like just vinegar and green chili. Despite all this, we really wanted to like this place so we ordered takeout tonight. Our sandwich buns were greasy to the point we couldn't even eat them. I picked the chopped brisket out of my sandwich but it was so salty I had to dip it in the spicy BBQ sauce to hide the taste. I tried the sweet BBQ sauce first but I might as well have been dipping my meat in applesauce. Our daughter wouldn't touch her fries, they were so burnt and greasy. Bottom line, we can tell the meat is good quality. PLEASE BRAD! Stop over seasoning your food and just let the quality meat speak for itself!

Mmm mmm those are some good greens. Ordered those with some sausage and ribs, which were much much better this time. Great service my coke never got to empty. The only complaint was a $4.50 charge to order a side of sausage, which came sliced only 5 little pieces, seemed a bit chintzy but it was good. The greens blow little z's greens out of the water.

This is the best BBQ around. Though it is a little cramped at times, it is well worth the wait. Everything on the menu is amazing, and the home made BBQ sauces are the perfect finish to any item. The brisket (in any form) is amazing, and the chicken nachos are a favorite app to split. Michigan craft beers are always cold and on tap, and the atmosphere is always great. Enjoy!!

Tried the Hammer (pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw). Excellant. Loved the grilled buttered bun. Also had the potato salad. Definately different with lots of dill. SS had the french dip, also excellant. The brisket was extremely tender. Wish there was a BB's close to home.

It was my first time eating at Bad Brads, and the food was excellent. The on tap micro brew selection was superb and quit enjoyable in the 28 oz mason jars. The choice of side dishes included the best pit beans I have ever had, along with all the other BBQ classics with little twists. The only reason it did not give it five stars was because the brisket and corn bread were on the dry side, but sill very tasty. As for the reviews saying it is better than Slows, I would have to disagree, some of Brads items are better, and some things at Slows are better. Overall it was a great dinner and I'll definitely be back in the future. P.S. can't wait for the one to open in Shelby Township

I had wanted to try this place for a very long time and I wish I could say that I was glad that I did. Unfortunately that was not the case. It all started when I wanted to call ahead to reserve a table. They wouldn't let me. I couldn't believe it. We had someone in our party that relies on the use of a scooter so being able to call ahead is nice so they can get us a table that is easy to park the scooter nearby. When we got there we were surprised that on a Saturday evening they really weren't that busy which can be a good indicator of how good a restaurant is. The staff weren't helpful from the minute we walked in. They sat us at the worst possible table; the seats were uncomfortable, the table has this weird metal lip on it so if you try to rest your arms on it you will get hurt. The worst part was we had no place to park the scooter. It doesn't take up a huge amount of space and it cost over $1,000 so we don't exactly like to let it out of our sight. They took the scooter and hid it by the front door and in doing so they lost a piece of it. I was pissed but of course didn't notice it until we were leaving. When I did notice it I went back inside and asked the ladies to help look for the part. They told me it must have been picked up and thrown out...geez thanks. Now on to the food. I was pretty disappointed that this is a BBQ joint and I couldn't even get BBQ pulled chicken. Not everyone wants pulled pork. And the BBQ that they did offer was over priced in my opinion. I had a burger, my husband had the fish and chips and my in laws did order some of the BBQ. No one left happy. The burger was over cooked and had no flavor. The "house chips" that they give you weren't even edible. They were so salty and taste burned more than anything. They were disgusting. The fish and chips looked ok but again the fries were too damn salty to even be consumed. And my in laws said the BBQ was nothing to write home about. The staff just stand around and stare at you. I would never return nor recommend anyone to visit. It should have been a pretty good indicator of how good the place was run when there were hiring signs on the front lawn for pretty much every position.

Half way through the best taco I've ever tasted, I realized I wasn't in a Mexican restaurant. Amazing. After a mindblowing menu review, we decided we would start with a few appetizers for our first visit; BBQ nachos, loaded fries and tacos. I could not stop eating. The pulled pork and beef brisket were delicious on top of the nachos, smothered on fries and in the tacos. When the bill arrived, my soul went from bbq heaven to a shocking reality. The beers were $9. Then I looked over at my beer and it was still half full. I really hope the beer gods don't strike me down by saying 'The beer was just too big'. For our next visit we will try the sandwiches or maybe the mac n cheese, or maybe more apps...and order small beers. Come early or late, the restaurant is tiny. They are also opening up a location closer to my home (23 and Van Dyke)... gosh, I hope it's this awesome!

I have been to this one but I am glad they opened one in Shelby as it is closer to me. Had I not have came to this one I would probably never know about the one in Shelby township. Amazing BBQ!!! This location is smaller than the Shelby township location and the only time I came here there was an hour wait. The good news is that the wait was worth it. Thank you Bad Brad's for bringing some happiness to my life with great BBQ.

I've heard so much about this restaurant and was NOT impressed. We waited at least 40 minutes for a table (there were only 2 of us). We each had an entree and split an appetizer. Good, but had better. The appetizer of the wings was way too fried. Hardly any taste and super dry. I order the Big Jimmy sandwich, which was good, and huge for the price but nothing special.. My Aunt ordered the classic BBQ sandwich and said it was okay but has had better too.. Just disappointed in the wait, and the food being boring. Maybe I'll try it again and try something else. We also were sitting at high top in the bar. While we were there, there were waitresses (2 of them) that kept walking around constantly. Back and forth with nothing to do but look at tables and clear them off. I know that's what you do when you bus tables but come on, 1 minute you walk by and people don't even have their food and you walk by again and check to see if they are gone? Each of them kept doing circles around the restaurant, waiting and asking customers if they were done with full plates of food in front of them. I don't get it. It was so annoying! Waitresses kept staring at us like they were rushing for us along with other customers to get out so they could clean up/bus.

The first experience I ever had at Bad Brad's BBQ was terrible, but they have slowly been redeeming themselves. The first time I went there I ordered carry out. I ordered the pulled pork, with mac 'n cheese and the greens. I also ordered one beef and one chicken street taco. When I got there to pick up my food, the young waitress informed me that they weren't allowed to mix taco meats and therefore they gave me two chicken. WTF? Why didn't they call me and tell me this and ask which I'd prefer. Chicken was my least favorite choice so I told them I wanted beef. I was also annoyed that you couldn't mix them because I would have paid extra to try both. I don't like it when restaurants limit you:( Anyways, the waitress told me that they already made the chicken ones for me so I replied, "Nevermind mind then, I don't want them." I'm fully in support of being a difficult customer to help restaurants get their sh** together. By this point, the girl was glaring at me so Bad Brad had to come over and intervene. He begrudgingly agreed to make the beef. By the time, I was annoyed by the whole situation. Last week I give Bad Brad's another try. I really like their decor. My family lives near New Baltimore, so over the past couple decades I have seen a lot of restaurants come and go at that location. The rustic outdoor porch area and the cool woodwork inside and outside are beautiful. In terms of food, they have wonderful sauces but terrible pulled pork. It's so peppery:( Their Mac 'n Cheese side is $1 extra to order which is strange. It's good but not worth the $1 extra. Def, try the street tacos and the turkey sandwich sliders. The service was also great when I went there a second and third time. If they were in the Detroit area, I'd prolly give the place 3 stars, but because there aren't too many interesting restaurants out in New Baltimore, I think I'll give them stars. I do hope that they improve the pulled pork and stop charging extra for the mac n cheese.

I am a big fan of Slow's and this place is right up there! Plus you don't usually have to wait FOREVER for a table! HUGE HUGE PLUS!! When I go to BBQ places I tend to order the same "safety" meal.. Brisket, with sweet potato mash and mac & cheese. The Brisket was great. I also tried the chopped brisket and liked that. Sweet potatos are good...they are sweet potatos...you can't really mess those up. Mac & Cheese was GREAT!! Way better than slows! Had a nice cheese combo and nice and creamy with a crumb topping served in a mini cast iron pan! How can you go wrong!? The only things I was not completly won over on was the sauces. They are not horrible, I am just a big big fan of Slow's Apple BBQ Sauce...I literally put it on every bite! The sweet sauce was good....but not...WOW! The hubs did enjoy the mustard sauce with his pulled pork! Will 100% be back! It's nice to be able to say at 5pm "Let's have bbq!" and not have to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance! Good job Brad! :-)

Stumbled upon this place while checking out the New Baltimore/Anchor Bay area. It was too cold to eat outside but I could see there was a large outdoor patio with what looked like an awesome fireplace, I'll return when that area is open. The entrance has beautiful, HUGE rocks and lots of wood; loved it! Inside the decor is fun and very unique with antique tractor seats for seating at the bar area. I was with mom so we sat in a booth. The drink menu's are made of wood so are the overhanging lamps. There is a lot to choose from on the menu. Mom just ate at White Castle (what a shame...on so many levels) so she wasn't hungry but she did order coffee and the bumpy cake. I ordered the half slab of ribs with two sides. I chose the Brad's baked beans and the mashed sweet potatoes. The food was presented very nicely and there was a lot of food for the price. Mom received a large slice of cake with ice cream. There was a lot of ribs for only ordering 1/2 slab. There was a generous portion of baked beans and sweet potatoes. The baked beans had a lot of pulled pork and it was the most smokey, flavorful baked beans I have ever ate! The beans were so tasty I decided to abandon my ribs and go straight for the beans. There was such a large portion of beans I could only handle 3 small ribs and 1/2 the potatoes. There were 4 sauces on the table that you could squirt on the ribs. The 321 or is it, 123 sauce was excellent. I found the sweet BBQ sauce too sugary. The spicy sauce was excellent. BUT I would have preferred that all of the sauces be thicker, as it is they are a very thin, almost watery sauce. The service was excellent. I can't wait to return and try other items on the menu.

I have been here a handful of times and now feel like I can rate Bad Brads BBQ fairly. I wish there was a 3.5 star because that is what I would give this place. Things I WOULD order again. BBQ Nachos, Loaded Downtown BBQ fries and the Hammer Sammich (pulled pork, cole slaw, pickle and 1-2-3 sauce). Things I would NOT order again the wedge salad( WAYYYY too many toppings and the blue cheese over powered the whole thing), chowder and tortilla soup and anything with the smoked chicken ( t tastes like mildew - at least to me it does, my boyfriend agrees it taste a bit funky but can't put his finger on it). The atmosphere here is nice and the bartenders are always friendly. Sometimes the wait for food is a bit long even when there is no one in the place. Also, I was really excited for the pickles here and they are just not good at all!! So sad, because I love pickles...mostly mclure's pickles (I know shameless plug) but MAN o' MAN do they make damn good pickles!! Overall this place is just A-OK.

I usually love this place, have been there several times. However, when we went there tonight everything seemed like it had slipped. The service was iffy- plates weren't cleared at all, even when dessert came to share, leaving no room on the table. The food was also just so-so this time, it felt like it had been sitting out prepared in the kitchen for awhile. Disappointing. Lastly, some menu changes have made for some less flexible options- only one size of salad offered at dinner when there used to be 2. The salad was ok but too big for one and soaked in dressing with no option to take it home and it not be soggy later. Normally Bad Brads gets rave reviews, but this night it felt like they were phoning everything in.

This was the first time I ever ate at Bad Brads and it wont be my last! The food portions are huge and the food is the best barbecue I have ever tasted. I ordered a combination plate, which consisted of brisket, smoked turkey and pulled pork. The meats were smoked to perfection and the sauces were just as delectable. The sides were equally amazing, I had tortillas soup and my friend had the bbq chowder I have never experienced such deliciousness. Our waitress wasn't the greatest, but it didn't distract from my dining experience. This restaurant blows Slow's out of the water in my opinion. If you like barbecue, you have to try this restaurant!

This is a local place for me and in my opinion can be hit or miss as far as the food goes. They do have a great local beer menu and nice patio. The meats and sandwiches can be very greasy and fatty. I've ordered the collard greens on a few occasions and sometimes they come out so salty that they are not edible in fact, this seems to be an issue with the food here in general. We all like flavorful food but they need some quality control as far as the salt goes. The tacos are usually good and the beer is always good : )

I never do this I mean never. Especially when my wife and I love the food so much but today was the last straw. I will never return to that restaurant again. For the umpteenth time my pick up order was wrong. When I called to have it rectified I was told to come and pick up my order. When I arrive they offered me what I was missing in my meal but I just wanted my meal replaced I didn't want to eat half of it cold and I did return everything that I picked up. It was one meal!!!! I go there all the time!!! When I refuse to just except the side the owner/cook through it across the room into a garbage pail and ran from the back and attempt to confront me. I thought from how he through the item and was running upfront that he wanted to fight. I quickly tried to explain to him how I just wanted my meal all at once and that this happens every time. He had no concern for his customers (as all of them were staring) or the fact that the problem was his and not mine. Last time that this happened the lady manager told me that I was trying to get free food. When she told me that I called the other restaurants to get a hold of the owner or another manager because I couldn't believe she said that to me. I did contact Matt at the other restaurant and he told me he couldn't believe that happened. Well, we can't believe this happened. This will be the last time I eat at Badbrads Bbq unfortunately. I recommended it to so many people and it's less than a minute from my house and now I'm to the point of posting my first bad reviews on any website and will never dine there again. You had a customer for life and you sent us away

I must say that I really love this place.....I have been going here for about 3 years now and I am satisfied every time. The sliced brisket and ribs are top notch, and they have wonderful sauces to pair. The craft beer menu is a huge plus for me, my friends consider me a "beer snob" and the selection at brads has never left me disappointed. Make sure to try their signature BBQ nachos, they are great! Look people....80% of restaurants out there are serving you crappy generic or frozen pre cooked meals...everything at this place is house made and it shows...When I asked one of their servers what was frozen here she told me "all we have is a mini freezer, and it is strictly for ice cream....I recommend that you try it out.

All of the staff was extremely friendly, and there was an option to eat al fresco. The menu is mainly BBQ meats, but some of us chose the salads and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Full BBQ Chicken Salad and it was a huge plateful of cold chicken, chips, bacon, and other bits. I also ordered a side of warm chips with salt and vinegar. I finished the entire salad and all of the chips, and I still feel full nearly 6 hours later. I kind of wish the chicken was more BBQ'd and hot instead of cold. The fresh made chips are also very good but a bit rough on the palate. The location isn't too bad although it is quite a drive from the rest of Southeast Michigan.

Let me start by saying that if I were a beer god I would indeed strike Meredith E. down for saying a beer was too big. Can there be such a thing? I suppose if they wheeled over a keg with a handle welded on it then MAYBE..... Meredith and i went here after checking out the menu on the interwebz. Another solid choice by us. Now I haven't tried the meats separately yet(believe me I will) but the creativity in the way they use their meats is second to none. Homemade tortilla chips smothered in pulled pork to make what is unquestionably the best nacho I've had in my life. Street tacos filled with brisket? More please. The food was excellent. The sauces seemed lacking though. They just arent as good as other BBQ places I have been to. I wished it was a warmer night as their patio looked phenomenal. Brick with a fire place and some nice patio furniture. It looked like a place I would like to kick back with a giant mason jar of beer. The decor on the inside was pretty snazzy as well. The walls were wood and had paintings of the cuts from a swine and moo-cow. I did, and will again, enjoy a giant mason jar of beer here. The place is rather small though. They crammed about as many tables as possible in the joint which is a bit uncomfortable but the food makes up for it. I don't wanna say, "Watch out Slows" quite yet but I have a gut full of smoked meat that is making me question why I need to drive to Corktown for BBQ.

I still love this place. I go all the time and the food is consistent. The only issue I have is the seating. Lately I've been going with my mother who cannot sit at the high top tables. There are probably 15 booths. 3 low tops and about 5 high tops. And we are always getting put at the hi tops. I don't see a reason for hi tops personally. As I even think they are uncomfortable. Oh and for some reason it seems the sweet sauce isn't the same. Needs to be a bit thicker and sweeter. More like the apple from Slows Other than that. Still love Bad Brads

Best BBQ in the Detroit area hands down! They also have awesome tacos, BBQ Nachos, and Burgers! Love going there in the summer and sitting out on the patio, enjoying a beer and some BBQ. Haven't had a bad meal there yet! Excited about the new location opening June 11 ( I think) in Shelby! Only downside is seating, but if you hit it at the right time, you can grab a quick bite!

Lemme tell ya,I was delightfully suprised with this place, drove by a 100 times but never stopped but i'll tell ya this I sure am glad i stopped today..I had the pulled pork sandwich with some homemade french fries and slaw...my wife had the mini sliders with some chili and there homemade doritos..the pork was so tender and juicy, flavored just right and they had a nice selection of sauces to choose from,I opted for the sweet sauce but also tried there sweet mustard..the fries were crispy and the homemade tortilla chips were delicouse,I've had alote of BBQ all over the US and can say i've found a hidden gem right in my own backyard..so if you like some fine swine as much as i do i would highly recommend givin this place a try...

Bad Brad's is in an out of the way location just outside Downtown New Baltimore. The building has the spot-on look of a top notch barbeque restaurant. While the parking lot could use a lot of work, the outside dining space is a really nice option during good weather. When you walk into the front of the facility, the first sense that is attacked is your sense of smell. The wonderful smoke that flavors their meats is present during your entire visit. The wood and metal look of the place complements the quality of the food nicely. Folk art paintings about meat and cooking implements are nice touches for the facility. The staff at Bad Brad's is always efficient, knowledgeable and pleasant. They have always made my family and me feel welcome and at home. Your order will be treated with care and a big smile. The star of the show is, of course, the food. This is the best BBQ in MI. Their chopped brisket is definitely superior to their more famous local comparisons. Other standouts include their street tacos (best tacos in the area, including traditional Mexican restaurants), the pulled pork, which is juicy and tender, and the BBQ chicken salad. The sides are all well made. The sweet potato mash and the pit beans are always hits with my family. They also have a fantastic beer selection to complement their smokey dishes. I have brought several out of town and out of country visitors to Bad Brad's and it is frequently cited as a culinary highlight of their visit. My Chinese guests have been recommending a visit to their colleagues. Now, it is a regular part of the tour.

I've heard only good things about this place so I decided to try it for myself and I was disappointed. I had the pulled pork and to be honest it was just ok. I wasn't a fan of the BBQ sauce either. Even the Mac and cheese was just ok. The service was great. That's the only reason I wanted to give 3 stars. I won't be returning.

Long story, but I ended up here last night with a co-worker. We were doing some work in the area, and he's a barbecue aficionado who was already planning on checking out Brad's. He knew what he wanted, so I just ordered something similar because I was really hungry. Unfortunately, they were out of the sliced brisket, so I got the pulled pork and the pork sausage. My co-worker got the chopped brisket (which is marinated) and pulled pork. He had the mac & cheese and fries for his sides. I had the mac & cheese and the cole slaw. Overall, it wasn't far off from what I would normally order at Slows. The meat platters come with your choice of 1-4 meats, two side items, and a couple of flour tortillas. The pulled pork was good, but very salty. Maybe too much. The pork sausage was very flavorful, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made it there at the restaurant. I also tried some of the chopped brisket, which I wasn't into - I didn't like the marinade. The mac & cheese was excellent. It's a white cheddar cheese and it has a baked bread crumb/herb/cheese crust on top, which I'm always a fan of. The cole slaw was also good - a very appropriately sweet, tangy, crunchy, and creamy counterpoint to the meats. I tried a few of the sauces, and most were a bit too extreme, meaning the sweet was too sweet, the sour was too sour, etc. But the 3-2-1 sauce was pretty good. The atmosphere at Brad's is like a Famous Dave's, or someplace like that. It feels like a chain restaurant, but not necessarily in a bad way. All of the servers were very helpful, and we had no problems there. Overall, I'd recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Definitely glad there is a great BBQ place close to home (20 mins). Me and my girlfriend frequently travel to Clarkston to go to The Woodshop, but Bad Brads will cut that need in half. Our first trip was a Friday and it was around 5 pm. We literally just beat the crowd. After our arrival the line was out the door We had a 15 minute wait and chose to take a seat at the bar to have a drink and an appetizer. We picked the warm potato chips, which were made to order. They were excellent thick cut chips seasoned well and accompanied by delicious ranch. It was a good impression from the start. I really liked the menu structure. They had various BBQ southern fare but the coup de grace are the BBQ platters. You can choose between 1-4 meats and they are tiered prices and very reasonable. This is in contrasts to the way most other places work where they have a set menu with secondary meats as a costly optional side. I love the idea that I can get a two meat platter with chicken and pork or brisket and sausage. It lends a little more freedom depending on how hungry I am and what I am in the mood for The Pulled pork is excellent and was packed full of flavor and was super moist. No need to drench it in sauces so I recommend you use them sparingly. I also had an order of the pulled chicken which was seasoned very well and was very moist. This is excellent because I find chicken cooked in this manner tends to become dry and tough. I would compliment the chicken with the mustard sauce. It's an amazing pair. The sides we had were: Brad's Pit beans, garlic mashed with chives and bacon, the Mac and Cheese, and the steamed Veggies. I found the sides to be hit or miss. The pit beans were extraordinary and could have been a whole meal on their own. Definitely my favorite side. Secondary would be the Mac and Cheese, which also could be an entree all on it's own. I found it to be awesomely creamy and rich. The garlic mashed and the veggies were prepared well and tasted good but were just not mind blowing. Good but not great. I will make it a point during other trips to try the remaining sides and post updates. I have heard very good things about their homemade fries. Over all it was an excellent experience. The only thing I found lacking slightly was the sauce. Even though it is not really needed I like to have the option. The 3-2-1 and mustard were by far the best of the bunch. The sweet was way to sweet almost like candy and the spicy was just hot without a lot of flavor. They just seemed to be missing something. Nothing can be perfect but I hope they expand their sauce selection in the future. Just a tip, go to Slow's and try the Apple BBQ....Copy that. It is heaven in a bottle. I would put that sauce on anything and devour it in seconds. Work on getting a few extra sauces and we will talk about hitting that 5 star mark lol. Overall, we will be back again and again. This is one of those places that you keep a secret as long as possible. I will never abandon my Woodshop but I can't handle a 3 hour wait for a table. Food network needs to stay away from places like this. So much exposure can ruin a good thing.

Cannot believe all of the good reviews for this place. Dry, tasteless BBQ in equally tasteless surroundings. All that and inexplicably crowded every time I've had the displeasure of dining here. I will not allow any more friends to drag me to this hole ever again

Placed my carry out order for New Years Eve at the New Baltimore location, thought it would be great to eat a good meal with TV. Ordered the 3 meat combo with 2 large cornbreads and mac and cheese and greens, was told it would be $17 for the 3 meat combo. Got there and order is $26.17. I inquired why and was told an up charge for the mac and cheese of $1.50 and $5.00 for the large cornbread. I said wow thats quite a bit I could have made 10 pans for that price. Anxious to get home to eat I opened my food and was highly disappointed. The meat was in a large white container just placed in there uncaring. The pulled pork was extremely dried out, the pulled chicken was dry too and the beef brisket not looking good. My mac & cheese had a ugly color like a brown color inside it, maybe it had bacon in it, it was so cheesy it was just cheese with a little mac noodles added. The corn bread was mushy not cooked completely and had red pimentos in it. The meal was in itself nasty & not good at all, I will never ever visit this eatery again. How they managed to get on channel 2 news I will never know. * * *

We went today to celebrate my husbands birthday. We were seated right away but at a table that was too small to accommodate our party of 8 with a high chair. My nephew was uncomfortably seated on the corner. We have been to the other Bad Brads in Shelby which was outstanding, but we all pretty much agreed the food at this one was poor. My BBQ chicken salad was in name only as the chicken pieces were so tiny they were almost invisible. My husbands brisket sandwich had so much gristle that he ended up with more meat on the side of his plate than on his sandwich. They mistimed bringing out the food so half the table was waiting significantly longer while they watched us eat. I was disappointed because I has been raving about this restaurant to family members who were trying it today for the first time. Will definitely go back to Shelby but not New Baltimore.

The food is awesome! We've gotten it for parties and no complaints. It's been a great addition to the area. But it's over-priced. Lower everything a $1 and we'll go more than 2-3 times a year.

Second time. First time I was underwhelmed. Now much better experience. Ordered pulled pork, pulled chicken and 1/4 slab ribs with the bbq beans and mac and cheese. Everything was really good. All the meats were well cooked and moist. Sauces could use some variety however the 321 mixed with the spicy is good. Handful of craft beers on tap. A bit heavy on IPAs but good selection. Long drive but worth it.

My sister and her husband decided to move out this-a-way; so when we came to check out their new house, this is where we went for some chow. For a place that has not been open for very long, they appear to be doing quite well. They seriously need to consider fashioning a larger parking lot to accomodate the crowds they are generating! The interior is very uniqueley decorated - not at all the stereotypically bland blah-ness that I was expecting. It looks like they are creating a pretty cool looking outdoor patio in front of the restaurant - it was still a work in process when we visited. Their entryway wasn't quite large enough for the number of people waiting for a table, but they seemed to be turning tables at a fairly steady rate. The menu offers a variety of bbq fare. We started off with the Campfire Nachos, electing not to add any additional meat. They were served up on a tray with large chips each heaped with lots and lots of toppings. The bar selection is plentiful - with beer choices you wouldn't expect from such a small joint and a decent liquor selection as well. The sandwiches are more than generous and break into the knife and fork arena. I had a pulled chicken sandwich, which was a bit on the dry side but I employed the use of the 5 different sauces on the table to make it as wet as I wanted. Most of the table ordered the barbecue platters - which is your choice of hardwood smoked meat piled on a lunch tray, a couple of small warmed tortillas on the side for making mini-sandwiches, and your choice of sides. The brisket seemed to be a run-away favorite, slow-cooked yumminess. The sides were a mixed bag - I would stick with the home-cooked potato chips over ordering their fries. The beans are not your traditional beans, so eater beware. Collard greens got a thumbs up. Our overall experience was quite good- I wouldn't say that it's the most fantastic bbq I've ever had in my life, but it was slightly better than average. The atmosphere is cool and the service was great. We'll be back. :) (Especially to check out the patio in the summer!)

I went to Brad's last night because I saw all the wonderful reviews from my fellow yelpers! You did not let me down...this place was awesome! Walking in to the restaurant with my husband, I noticed the manager walking around to tables on the adorable patio. That was a good sign! The restaurant is quite small but we got there early and beat the dinner rush. We were seated immediatley. I wanted everything on the menu! They won my heart when I saw they make their own homemade doritos! We had the smoked wings which we awesome! I like my wings well-done and these were perfect. We each had the pulled pork sandwhich and were highly impressed. The portions are bigger than slows and this won my husband over. We also had the homemade potato chips, wedges and mac & cheese which were all great! Our server's name was Angela and she was fantastic! The best server we had had in a long time :) The restaurant was very clean, and the food never sat in the window. I also love drinking beer out of a mason jar....it makes me feel like I am in a Nashville honkey tonk! I can't wait to go back.

I am from Chicago and always stop here when visiting family. It is amazing! Not a bad item on the menu! Great service every time. The details to the environment are perfection. I love the earthy feel. Good for kids as well as adults, just watch little ones so they don't fall in the pond! Worth the wait!

This is a review after my first visit. I give Brads 4 stars so there will be room to get better. In a down economy it takes good food and something different to bring a line of patrons to the front door of your restaurant. The ribs were great, rubbed, consistent and flavorful. The full platter is more than enough for two regular appetites. The sides were flavorful and unique. Service good for as busy as they were. Prices reasonable and will be more reasonable now that I have a feel for the size of the sides. No reservations taken, but the wait was not long for ten people. (No complaints from all ten of us.) When groups call I would make sure you tell them that will be seated only when the entire group arrives. If coming with a group make sure everyone comes the same time because the place is not that large and they want to maximize the space. Good job, Brad.

As good as you'll find in the Detroit area. We used to drive down to Slow's; no longer. All of the meats are seasoned and have the right amount of smoke. The cornbread is better than Slow's and the Mac & Cheese has a good seasoned taste. Nothing bland here folks. Got to give it 5 stars since it's the best I've had in Michigan so far.

Wow! Great! If you have ever spent any time down in Texas, then you know about good barbecue. If you happen to miss outstanding Texas style barbecue then you NEED to check this place out. It's amazing. I get the chopped brisket everytime. I love all of the sauces, and the sides. Whenever I eat at this place I forget I'm back in Michigan, and actually think I'm in Texas. They also have a really cool atmosphere here, and the outside patio is a fun place to eat when it's warm outside.

We drove a little ways out to get here and try it out and I was disappointed. I got the "the chop" sandwich and questioned if the brisket was truly smoked. The sandwich was very greasy and the fries were burnt and oily. I enjoyed the atmosphere but will not be trekking my way out here again.

Authentic smoked BBQ. This place is great! A little out of the way, but worth the trip. The nachos are my favorite. The sides are excellent. Awesome outdoor patio and will definitely being going there in the summer. The only reason this place is bad for groups is because the dinning area is not that big.

I won't say the ribs are the best I ever had. I grew up in Texas, so I'm more critical than the average Brad. However, the collard greens are FUN-omenal, and they're great paired with a pulled chicken salad with avocado and blue cheese. These guys make their own 'Doritos' too, and they're fun to snack on.

I love BBQ. I really love good BBQ and Bad Brad's is it. Now the east side in my opinion does not have to much going for it in the BBQ arena. We have Famous Dave's which is OK on it's best day. I found this little gem about a year after it opened and have been hooked ever since. Now a word about their BBQ. You aren't going to get a sauce drenched piece of meat here. This is Texas style BBQ which means they rely on their rubs and it is served to you with no sauce on it. This gives you the option to eat it just like it is, which is phenomenal, or choose you sauce poison. And speaking of sauces they rock a handful of Carolina Type (vinegar based) BBQ sauces. 3-2-1 is a great combo sauce but the Spicy is my favorite. They have a pretty decent menu but I usually only get the meat combos when i go there as I am a purist and a carnivore...it doesn't get any better. Their brisket is top notch but I prefer their chopped brisket over their sliced, not by much though. Their chopped Brisket is resmoked after it is chopped and it adds a great extra sauce to it. Their pulled pork and smoked sausage is killer and usually rounds out my 3 meat platter. I have had the chicken and the Ribs but neither are a favorite of mine. Not because they are bad but because I like the others better. the only complaint i have is that I have tried the ribs a couple times and i find them a bit dry and anemic but hey, even Superman has a weakness. If the meat wasn't good enough Bad Brads has a killer list of Sides. The Sweet Potatoes can double as a desert. The secret ingredient makes it taste like a pudding as opposed to a bowl of potatoes. The baked beans have a nice spice to them and the slaw is pretty fantastic (not to sweet not to tangy). I think my favorites on the sides are the Greens which rock some pulled pork and black eyed peas as part of the mix. I guess what i am trying to get across is that the place is consistent and the food is always pleasant on the palate. Bad Brad's has a great beer selection along with a top shelf liquor cabinet. Of course they server other drinks as well but who wants water with BBQ. I think Bad Brads gives Slows a run for its money and may have the edge on them. Enjoy the experience there but make sure you get there early. Thursdays- Saturdays are packed after 5pm and the place is small but it is worth the wait.

i just love this place. i`m convinced guy fieri needs to do an episode of diner, drive-ins and dives here. i`ve taken a pretty good menu tour so far & have not been disappointed yet. you really can`t go wrong with anything on the menu. everything appears to be made fresh; not frozen. the patio is a nice place to sit when weather permits. the place is a bit on the small side (no call-ahead seating, as we just recently found out), but its worth the wait, if there is one. they also just opened a new one on 23mile rd in shelby twp which seems to be a bit bigger; but i haven`t been to that location, so i can`t speak for it. the service at bad brad`s is great. i`ve never had a bad waitress/bartender. they also have carry-out, which is just as good as the dine-in food. my whole family loves it & always wants to go there when in town visiting. its a nice place to go to impress out-of-towners ;) i can not say enough good things about bad brad`s.

After a very intense BBQ craving I sought out some help from Yelp! Bad Brads was HUGELY recommended and some friends seems to feel the same way so...Away we went in my Mini Cooper, drooling for almost an hour from Birmingham!! I loved the patio but we settled sitting inside as it was a brisk June day and the very welcoming servers made us feel at home! It looked great, smelt fantastic and the service was quick (maybe too quick) We ordered some nachos that were beautifully presented and the toppings were great, the chips were VERY greasy and I felt that throughout the night, sorry for the details but true! The meat could not be faulted and I actually preferred the meat without the sauces that were available to add to the succulent chicken, Pork or Brisket! The sides were really the let down here and that is why I gave the place three out of five. Superb meat needed to be complimented and the sauces and sides were subpar and kindof tummy turning with being too graphic! The wonderful servers seemed to want to box it up before we finished the meal and we did feel hurried (obviously the rush was about to start) so we did rush the food without knowing where the rush was coming from??!! All in all i would say that I will definitely come back BUT... it isnt slows in Detroit. I am sure that with a better education on the menu from my side I am sure I will enjoy it second time round. Thanks for the meat (especially the chicken)

Talk about AMAZING BBQ! My boyfriend and I were just driving around shopping for wave runners, when we drove by this place and decided to stop in on our way back home. Greatest decision EVER! Be both had different versions of their sandwiches with their homemade bbq chips...equally amazing in their own ways. Their mac and cheese was amazing as well! Their 3.2.1 sauce was phenomenal...We will definitely be going back again! Neither of us can wait till we can try something new on their menu:)

The first 5-6 months after they opened the food was amazing. It seems like they're getting a little cocky since beating the "curse" on the location. As for it being "better that Slows" - not a chance.

Omg!!! Love this restaurant Bad Brads BBQ!!! I brought 3 of my girlfriend last night for those awesome BBQ nacho's and cocktails!!! My friends have never been here. Our waitress was Krystal !!! She was fabulous with helping the girls deside on what to order. Krystal was very pleasant and described the bacon, BBQ burger to the tee!!! I got that of course and was very happy, it was juicy and came to the table hot and fast!!! Yummmmmm!!!!! I can't wait to come back and I hope I get Krystal again, she rocked!!!! Thank you for a great evening with friends and yummy food!!!

I just ate at Bad Brads. It has been open awhile and have been reluctant to try it, but got a coupon in the mail and thought I'd give it a go. Nice local place, the food was good, but it is NO SLOW'S! Like previously mentioned. Tried two different apps and shared a three meat platter. The brisket and ribs tasted good, but slightly dry and certainly not melt in your mouth like slow's. The pulled pork being the best of the three. I would so make the drive and wait for a spot for exceptional bbq at slow's.

This is a local restaurant for me so I really want it to be good. The inside is rather small, so it is easy to get packed, so I chose the carry out twice. The first time I ordered the Brisket platter with ribs, bbq beans and mash potatoes and a chicken pulled sandwich. The brisket was absolutely delicious and plentiful. I would have preferred a few small tortillas than than ONE large tortilla. The bbq sauce was runny, and I like mine a little thicker but it did taste good. I did not get enough bbg sauce for both meals. I was a little turned off with the ribs though, they were the worse ribs I have ever had. They were overcooked with no meat. They might as well put seasoning on the bones and cooked it for a week. The mash potatoes were good, but the side was small. The beans had its on twist of various beans and bits of brisket. The pulled chicken sandwich was good enough, but the potato chips served was hard as a rock. The second time I ordered I got the brisket platter with 2 meats - both pulled chicken. I bought a few tortillas from the grocery, anticipating a lot of meat hopefully even for left overs. Lucky for me because they did not include any tortillas and even forgot to add bbq sauce. I had found a local coupon for 20% carry out, so I also bought some extras, french fries and an ice tea. The amount of brisket in this platter was considerably less than the first time I got a platter. The french fries were way overcooked and had the poor oil taste of the chips. The ice tea was terrible. Being local, if this place was great I would have made this a staple in my dinning. But because of the inconsistency of the amount of food, and the overcooked chips, fries, and ribs, it fails to make me crave bbq. If I return, it will only be a result of a momentary weakness of a 20% coupon. -----------edited sept 2012---------- I have bumped this up from 2 to 3 stars. Being the only BBQ joint in town, it becomes the default. I pretty much stick to the pulled chicken. How hard is it to mess up pulled chicken with bbq sauce? It is quite good, and two meats serve my small family. I have found that the corn bread is good as well. I love the garlic mash potatoes, and the upgrade cost on the mac and cheese is worth it when you crave it. The waitstaff is always friendly, and will take the initiative to learn your name, which I think is a HUGE plus. The coupon deal is usually not valid on the weekend, which is when you usually want to eat out. This place does have some charm and can grow on you. Just be warned the parking lot is falling apart (into the creek behind it), and can be filled up pretty quick. My secret: Carry out!

Yummy. Small eating area but good service. Glad the patio is open. It'll be nice during the summer. Still great. I LOVE the wall decor made of log ends. And the food is consistently good, every time we are back.

I've been waiting for a place close to home. Unlike the rest around this area (Metro-Detroit) this place is original, from their décor to the meals this place is great. I've eaten there twice this week and it's only 10-15 minutes away from my house. I have some family coming into town this weekend for the holidays and I'm taking them to Bad Brads!

They'll have to change the name to Good Brads BBQ- This location has seen a few restaurants quickly come and go, but I think we have a winner that will stay for quite a while. Saturday night - PACKED! Had about a 25 minutes wait so we sat in the corner of the barstool area by the serving window and got to see all of the food pass through. The waitstaff answered all of our questions of "what's that, how about that..." and by the time we sat down we had a good idea of what we wanted. Plenty of friendly wait staff, good beer, a few selections of wine and saw much liquor behind the bar so it looks like you can pretty much get anything. The ribs are served dry so you can add your chioce of Sweet, Sour, Spicy and 3-2-1 which is a combination sauce. The side are plentiful- loved the corn bread and kind of different Mac-n-Cheese. The sweet potato mash tasted kind of like pumpkin pie so I was sold! The guy next to us raved about his 10 oz Sirloin and the pulled pork sandwiches all looked piled high. The lady behind us said she alternates between the pulled pork and pulled chicken and still can't decide which she likes better. They've been there 3 months so maybe they've worked out any kinks since Tom was there. Next time I'll try their burgers and report back to Burger Boy Tom F. !! OH- THEY HAVE BUMPY CAKE FOR DESERT!!

I went there for lunch today, 8/31 and boy is this place great. First of all the place looks awesome. Now the food. I started with the smoked and fried wings. Wow are they good. The perfect combo of smokie fried goodness. Some of the best wings I have ever had. I tried them with the 321 sauce which is sweet and spicy marriage. They have like 5 different sauces, which are all amazing. You can't just choose one. Now for the half slab of ribs. They were insane. They were big and meaty and that dry rub was the best I've ever had. It was much like the rub on the wings from Sweetwater's downtown. My sides were mac and cheese which was very good. I think it was a combo of like 4-5 different cheeses. My other side was the sweet potato mash, which had just the right amount of sweetness. I put a little of the different sauces on it to give it another layer of flavor. This place is a must go to. Rivals Slows, not that Slows is the mecca for BBQ in the "D" I think that is for Lazybones. IMO. Definitely go, you will be very happy. It's the real deal.

The waitstaff was very good! From there, it went downhill. We had two appetizers, the kettle chips and the three sauces with nachos. The kettle chips were worse than a bag of chips. The nachos were overcooked and greasy. And the sauces were underwhelming. Each of us had different entrées, and none were remarkable. Only the sweet potato sauce and the baked beans were mentionable-worthy sides. The brisket, chicken, and ribs were lacking spice or good-in-your-mouth taste. The bill for four of us came to just under $80, with no special drinks ordered at all. There was an extra surcharge of $1.50 for a side of mac & cheese. I heard several patrons next to us say they paid 36$ for an order of four alcoholic drinks. I would suggest going elsewhere for better food, prices and ambience. .
